PSG seem to enjoy taking on the English and will relish taking on an injury hit Newcastle. Can The Toon return to Tyneside with anything?
UEFA Champions League – Parc de Princes Wednesday 21:00 CET
Team News:
PSG have great news with key CM players Joao Neves and Fabian Ruiz both passed fit to play. Influential right back Achraf Hakimi is back in Paris but there are doubts about a quick return after AFCON. Lucas Hernandez is back from suspension. They will be without a few back up players here with GK Matvey Safonov out and midfielder Lee Kang-In injured.
Newcastle is without starting CB Fabian Schar and key attacker Joelinton. They have some issues with key men, but it looks like they will risk them. Captain Bruno Guimaraes and Jacob Murphy are not 100% but will both likely be in squad.
Formations:
PSG have favoured 4-3-3 in 99% of their games and will continue here with the return of Neves, Ruiz and possibly Hakimi. They will look to create overloads across the pitch and stretch Newcastle with Dembele and Kvaratskhelia.
Newcastle generally play the 4-3-3 – The visitors will look to be compact and counter with the pace of Gordon and Barnes. They will be direct and will look to ruffle the PSG backline with long throws and balls in behind.
Statistics:
Referee: Slavko Vincic (Average cards 4.19 Yellow 0.20 Red per game)
Match Preview:
PSG v Newcastle is 6th v 7th on final day of UCL group stages. The holders have shown a few weaknesses over past weeks, losing to Sporting Lisbon and close neighbours Paris FC. They have been missing key starters though. Expect PSG to dominate possession and the key stats. Newcastle knows how to play these big ties and will likely replicate the formations and tactics that have defeated a few big teams this season. They are guaranteed at least a play off spot so have nothing to lose in Paris.
Betting Preview:
Without Murphy, Schar, Joelinton and Guimaraes Newcastle have a tall order in Paris. The odds have moved up and down on PSG last few days as punters scramble for value. Team news is all positive for the home side and they do look the bet in this game.
